Many families in our community rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to provide meals for their households. Unfortunately, due to the federal government shutdown, SNAP benefits may be temporarily interrupted starting November 1. We understand that this disruption can lead to uncertainty, worry, and financial strain for some members of our school community.
Please know that those affected are not alone; we are here to help. Below is some information that may be useful for families facing difficulties during this challenging time:
Students will continue to receive breakfast and lunch at school based on their current eligibility status. If a family's financial situation has changed for any reason, including government furloughs, parents can apply for or update their free or reduced-price meal application. First-time applicants can complete the application through the parent portal. To amend an existing application, please visit our Child Nutrition Department at 1902 West Maple or call them at (918) 371-4047 for assistance.
Our school team is ready to support anyone with questions or specific needs. If your family requires assistance, please contact your child’s school office. Counseling resources are also available for students who may be experiencing increased anxiety or concern.
You can learn more about how the government shutdown will affect SNAP benefits by visiting the Department of Human Services'FAQ webpage. Those in need of assistance, as well as those looking to support their fellow Oklahomans, can find additional resources on the DHS “Be a Neighbor” webpage.
Although this situation is beyond our control, we can choose how to care for one another. Our school team is committed to keeping you informed and ensuring every student feels safe, secure, and supported.
